Nature and Wildlife Photography For Beginners.

Viewing nature photography as abstract art.

The images you see on this website were taken by the photographer Christina Saunders who focuses on nature and wildlife photography. She is really just a beginner starting photography as a hobby in 2009 with just a simple compact digital Kodak camera. She realised that she liked to be behind the lens of her camera, so in February 2010 she progressed to the Canon DSLR 500D which came with the standard kit lens. The extra lens that she chose was the Canon macro EF- S 60mm 1:2.8 USM lens.

Living in the UK, February meant winter. Those first winter months were spent mainly studying the features, camera controls and settings. She devoured photography books and magazines. Not much else was done until spring. Once the warmer weather set in, that was when her nature and wildlife photography really started. Initially she concentrated on close up macro work and just loved the results she was getting.

Her early photos were mainly of flowers and insects. Looking through a macro lens at the miniature world with all it’s detailed finery gave her a buzz…

A whole new world opened up. She just loved it.

This love became her passion for nature and wildlife photography.

Since then her glass collection “Lenses” has slowly grown. She still uses the same Canon camera with it’s limited 3/4 sized image sensor and hopes to move on to a full framed camera sensor which is found on the Canon D1 or D5 cameras. These professional cameras give greater detail to the images. They are very expensive, but use the same lenses that she’s been using up until now. Fingers crossed!

As a nature and wildlife photographer she thinks that it’s best to start by slowly building up your photograph equipment as you can afford it. Mainly focusing on getting the best possible lenses as this is what you see with. The camera just captures the image.

As a beginner start off slowly and gradually build up your equipment with the pieces that suit your forte. Christina now has found a growing interest in photographing the water birds in her area. A larger 400mm telephoto is very useful in getting in close from further away. Action shots of take offs, flight and landings add interest to her photos.

A Photograph Exhibition is planned, starting on the 21st July to the first of August. Hopefully her small beginnings will grow into something worth while. It’s been her passion to get outdoors to photograph nature at every opportunity and has taken thousands of photographs over this short period.
