Nature Photography Tips.

If you love nature, then photographing it becomes so much of a pleasure. Here are a couple of tips to help you take better photos and improve your photography results.

An example of a photo we took of natures best and how you can to do the same by copying these techniques.

English Gardens

As a nature photographer in the UK, most of the subject matter has already been photographed. Your aim is to capture something unique and different, something that will stand out. By knowing what you want to photograph and the subject matter, helps to know the best season, time of day, suitable light to photograph in and the angle in which to approach your shot.

With this photograph, we knew that the azalea gardens would be in full bloom and color from the end of April. That time of year in England means the sunlight is not too harsh during the middle of the day so we could photograph then. This brought out the full color without any extra shadow, which could have been the case from any early morning or late evening shoots.

Finding the right vantage points from which to frame the scene was our next hurdle. This meant exploring the area with an open mind, looking forward, up, down and behind to see what would work best. Care was needed in deciding on the best focal length of the camera lens, in order to fill the frame, to remove any dead ground or unwanted areas. The tall tree on the edge, to the right of the picture was left, to show the depth to this garden.

We wanted the path and steps to wander/ lead the eye through the scene using the rule of thirds. I know that rules are there to be broken, but in this case I think it works by balancing the picture. Then photographing from a tripod using the camera’s self timer and manual focus meant a crisp sharp resulting image worth bagging.
