Water birds to photograph around Sandhurst include white mute swans, Canada and Egyptian geese, mallard and black tufted ducks, cormorants, common gulls, grey herons, little grebe, coots and moorhens.

Photographing white mute swans, 3/4 grown cygnets, mallards, a tufted duck, moorhens, coots, black cormorant, crested grebe and their young was all possible when visiting Heath Lake near Crowthorne in Berkshire.

We visited the Moor Green Lakes Nature Reserve for some lovely shots of butterflies, water birds and a roe deer buck that we surprised. These lakes are reclaimed gravel pits that lie long side the Blackwater river. A very quiet and peaceful area to photograph wildlife in.

My first EOS Digital SLR “DSLR” camera was the Canon EOS 500D. I was told to buy any good mid range SLR camera and then buy the best lenses that I could afford. It’s the lens that gave you quality photographs.

This is true to some extent!

Photographing nature using a macro lens in the field has it’s challengers, it’s not easy, but… there are ways to make it very satisfying and rewarding.

The only way to progress as a beginner nature photographer is to practice and take lots of photographs. Practice, practice and practice. The more photos you take the greater is your chance to really get fine images.
