Photographing Wildlife Tips.

Welcome to photographing wildlife tips. Photographing wildlife can be a exciting and rewarding experience.  However, taking wildlife pictures isn’t easy.  Animals and especially wild animals can be very uncooperative subjects. Get out into their environmental to photograph, there are many factors can be harsh to deal with. But not to worry, here are some photographing wildlife tips to help you get the best wildlife photographs possible.

1. The first set of photographing wildlife tips deal with the wildlife itself.

Take Caution When Photographing Wild Animals

   a. Do your research on the animals you want to shoot beforehand.  Figure out when they are active, where they like to hang out, and what precautions to take around them.  Always think of your safety and the safety, wellbeing of the animal.  Find out their comfort level and how close they allow others to be around them.  Do not get too close and frighten them or you might be at risk of getting attacked.  This will also help in getting a picture of the animal acting naturally as if you weren’t there.

    b. Try to find out and decide on what kind of pictures that you want to take of that animal.  That way you can patiently wait near the animal until it does that action.

2. Now on to the photography side and taking photographs.

   a. Lighting is always important in taking pictures. Most animals are active early in the morning or as the sun is setting.  Remember to use the sun’s light by having your back towards the sun.

    b. Keep your camera in your hand at all times so that you are always ready to take a shot.  Stock multiple batteries and memory for your camera.  You might be out there a while taking photos.

    c. Take multiple shots at a time to increase the chances of getting a great shot.  With a digital camera, you can check your results to see if your camera settings suit your conditions. Delete the photos you don’t want without wasting storage space and download time.

    d. When taking the shot, always try to get the eyes of the animal.  The eyes are where the emotion lies in an animal, since they cannot smile or frown.  Also take a few shots at eye level or below to get a different perspective.

    e. Try to find a background that will mesh well with the animal and make them pop.  You don’t want to have the animal just blend in with the background.

3. Equipment needed in your photographing wildlife tips.

Now on to some equipment that is suggested for wildlife photography. You will need a camera that allows you to manually change the focus and shutter speed.  A tripod is also helpful to keep the camera as steady as possible and help your framing and precision.  Use a long lens for smaller animals like 600mm.  A 300mm lens is good for larger animals.

4. The best tip to give you is patience and practice.

Patience is definitely key in taking wildlife pictures. Practice taking photos of moving targets.  This will help for motion shots.  It is always helpful to practice at zoos and wildlife parks to so you will know what shots you like and how to get them.
